December 19 - School (Speaker), by Lauren
Eyal's father Omer, spoke to us about his experience in the Israeli war in Lebanon in 1972. When Omer was 20 years old he was in the special forces in eh army. When he was shot, he came upon a sleeping watchman of his side who had heard gun shots and shot away to defend himself, hitting Eyal's father, Omer. When Omer was transported to the hospital, he awoke and asked his friend what had happened. His friend replied saying "you are paralyzed from the neck down." Omer did not grasp that he would not walk again. Two months went by and he became very sad and depressed. When the third month came, he said to himself "I have hit the floor and all I can do now is go up." I took this quote away from Omer's dad thinking that to go up is a blessing. It's important to not stay down. I think that we need to take this quote and put it into action and help those who need help getting off the floor.
